How long does processing take?
Processing is an art — not a rush 🖤
Every Ember Shade piece is hand-poured, and we take time to properly cure both our candles and our vessels to ensure quality, performance, and safety.
Processing times can vary depending on:
- Cure time
- Weather and temperature
- Order volume
I also work a full-time job while building Ember Shade, but every order is made with intention and care. I work hard to get your items out as quickly as possible without ever compromising quality.
Thank you for your patience — and for supporting something handmade ✨
Help! My Ritual Melt won’t squeeze out — what do I do?
No worries — your wax isn’t defective, it’s just being wax 🖤
Because we fill our pouches into the neck, wax in that small area can sometimes harden faster than the rest. The pouch adjusts to temperature — the wax does not.
How to fix it:
- Use a toothpick (or something small) to gently push the wax from the tip back into the pouch
- Knead the pouch with your hands to soften everything
- Once blended, it will squeeze out smoothly again
A quick fix — and back to the ritual ✨
Why won’t my candle stay lit?
Your wick just needs a little reset 🖤
Wood wicks can build up char after burning, which can cause the flame to struggle or go out. Sometimes the wick can also become slightly clogged, or the candle was relit too quickly after going out.
How to fix it:
- Trim the wick down to about 1/8”–3/16”
- Remove any burnt/blackened wood from the tip
- Make sure the wax around the wick isn’t pooling or drowning it
If your candle went out and won’t relight right away —
let it breathe and fully reset, then try again in a day or two.
A clean wick + a little patience = a steady, beautiful flame ✨
Why is my candle tunneling?
Your candle is remembering its first burn 🔥
Wax has memory — if the first burn doesn’t reach the edges, it will continue to burn that same narrow path.
How to prevent it:
- Always let your first burn reach a full melt pool (edge to edge)
- Burn for at least 2–3 hours the first time
Already tunneling? You can fix it:
- Let it burn longer to catch up
- Or gently wrap foil around the top (like a dome) to help heat reach the edges
A full melt pool = a clean, even candle every time 🖤
Why does my candle look wet or “sweaty”?
This is called fragrance sweating — and it can happen with temperature changes.
It doesn’t affect performance at all.
Just give it a gentle wipe and burn as normal ✨
Why does my candle have small bubbles or texture?
Because it’s handmade — not mass-produced 🖤
Our cement vessels and wax pours can have slight variations, air bubbles, or texture.
These are natural and part of the character of each piece.
No two are exactly the same — and that’s the point.
Why does my wood wick crackle sometimes and not others?
Wood wicks are a little unpredictable — in the best way 🔥
The crackle depends on:
- Wick trim
- Burn time
- Environment
Sometimes it’s loud, sometimes subtle — either way, your candle is performing as it should.
Can I burn my candle all day?
We don’t recommend it.
For best performance and safety:
- Burn no longer than 4 hours at a time
- Let your candle cool before relighting
Long burns can cause overheating and reduce the life of your candle.
Why does my flame seem high or low?
Your wick controls your flame.
- Too high? Wick is too long → trim it
- Too low? Wick may be clogged or need a reset
A properly trimmed wick = a balanced, steady flame ✨
Why does my candle smell different before burning?
Cold throw (unlit scent) and hot throw (lit scent) can vary.
Once lit, the fragrance opens up and fully develops — that’s when the magic really happens 🖤
Are your candles safe for sensitive people?
We formulate with intention.
Our fragrances are free from:
- Phthalates
- CMRs
- Hormone disruptors
While everyone’s sensitivity is different, our goal is to create a cleaner, more comfortable burn without overwhelming your space.
Do your candles help with headaches?
We can’t make medical claims — but we can say this:
Many people switch to Ember Shade because they’re tired of harsh, overpowering candles that cause discomfort.
We focus on clean, balanced fragrance designed to feel good in your space.
Why does my candle jar get hot?
Heat is part of the burn process 🔥
Our vessels are designed and sealed to handle candle use safely, but:
- Always place on a heat-safe surface
- Avoid touching while burning
Respect the flame — and it will respect you back 🖤
Why is there wax left on the sides?
This usually happens if:
- The first burn wasn’t long enough
- The candle wasn’t burned evenly
Letting your candle reach a full melt pool helps prevent this and keeps your burn clean.
Do you test your candles?
Always.
Every vessel, wick, and fragrance combination is tested to ensure:
- Safe burn
- Proper melt pool
- Balanced scent throw
We don’t release anything we wouldn’t burn ourselves.
Can I use a candle warmer or lamp instead of burning my candle?
We don’t recommend it — and here’s why 🖤
Candle warmers and lamps heat the entire candle (or too much of the surface) at once, instead of allowing it to burn gradually the way it was designed to.
This can cause:
- The fragrance to heat too quickly and burn off faster than intended
- The scent to fade over time, leaving your candle less fragrant
- An uneven distribution of fragrance throughout the wax
Our candles are formulated to release scent slowly and evenly through a proper burn — not all at once.
When you light your candle, the flame controls the melt pool and preserves the integrity of the fragrance. A warmer removes that balance.
Your candle won’t be damaged by using a warmer — but over time, you may notice it becoming unscented or weaker, even though wax remains.
For the best experience, scent throw, and longevity — we always recommend burning your candle as intended ✨
If you love using a candle warmer (we get it-they're cute), we recommend using a heat safe dish with one of our Ritual Melts instead. They are designed specifically for that kind of use. giving you the scent without sacrificing performance.
